Well, so much for February. by LoLC

Hi, people.

I'm still here.
The cat is still here.
We have been distracted by life, blizzards, saucers of milk, new bedding, etc.

But our lost causiness is very much intact, and The League has not been forgotten! In fact, a major design overhaul is in the works, so brace yourselves for that magnificence.

In the meantime, I finally got around to updating the League Store, which now boasts 68 (!) bumper stickers and several long since requested items, including "Complimentary" cards and wearable reminders of lab safety. So if browsing is your thing, that should help pass the time.

Thanks for being patient!

Slings, Arrows by LoLC

For reasons I won't dwell on, the past ten days have been rather rough going for me.*

The League has suffered.

But then, at tonight's archery class, this happened!

Followed by all of this!

And as it turns out, the pretend slaughter of woodland creatures is really cathartic!

Even for vegetarians.

So I think we're maybe back on track now. Thanks for your patience.

There are surely big changes ahead for The League in 2014, when I'll have to adapt my drawing subjects and frequency to reflect the onslaught of wonderful, happy things that must be just around the corner.

But in the meantime, I've got a backlog of angsty delights to finish. Watch this space.

*don't worry, the cat's holding steady.

*sigh* by LoLC

It was only a matter of time, really. The unofficial tag line of The League now has its very own collection. The options for meta-expressing your (and your infants'!) ennui, etc. are plentiful.

And if you haven't visited the League Store recently, why not explore for a bit? I've made a number of improvements and additions over the past few months. The Zazzle folks have also completely overhauled the entire site and it's, like, super hipster now. Which means some baffling design choices, but a generally smoother interface.

As always, please let me know if you're hankering after something that isn't yet available, and I'll see what I can do! (Though I can tell you right now that Zazzle does not stock clothing for cats. *sigh*)

A Very Good Bad Cat by LoLC

Maxee (~2000 to June 29, 2013)

Deemed a lost cause by an NYC shelter nine years ago, Maxee went on to help four apartments feel like home, keep my feet warm at night, and lick the bejeezus out of every soft fabric I owned. She was a skilled mouser, ant-er and ribbon-er who loved high perches, tiny boxes, and surprise attacks. She woke me up most mornings by systematically knocking my David Sedaris collection off the bookshelf, and thanks to her, brushing my teeth while standing normally will now always feel weird.

Max was quirky, quick and plucky till the end. She will be greatly missed.

Matriarchs by LoLC

Last Friday my grandmother passed away.

I was lucky to have spent a great deal of time with her in recent years, and she remained, at 93, one of my nimblest sparring partners and staunchest supporters.

She played no small part in my lifetime love of reading and ease around animals, and I also have her influence to thank for the time I caused a bartender--and everyone else within hearing range--to stop talking mid-sentence and stare perplexedly at my 20-something self when I unironically ordered a glass of port at a cocktail party.

My grandmother had a mischievous sense of humor and was amused by this webcomic-y endeavor of mine. For my birthday this year, she designed a bumper sticker of her own, inspired by my collection and carefully written on a blank sheet of mailing labels. I laugh every time I see it.

She was also more appreciative of my cats' antics than most, having shared her living space with them for several long stretches and grown fond of their peculiarities. So while it may take me a little while to get back in the swing of things here, I am hoping to post a few more drawings from my crazy-making cats series this week. I'd like to think they would have inspired a grandmotherly chortle or two.
